ID No 2638 Japan Silver Yen Year 27 Chinese chopmarks
Price: £350.00
Condition: Very Fine (VF)
KM* Y A25.3 for type. This is a very interesting piece. It bears the characteristic Chinese chop marks for use in China. However what is striking is the lack of the "Gin" counter mark. As I read in Krause the Gin (meaning silver) counter mark was applied to these coins after demonetizing them for use in Taiwan, Korea and S.Manchuria. Apparently either this coin escaped or simply found it's way out of Japan and subsequently the chop marks were applied. Interesting. It surfaced on a dealer's table in the recent Zurich Fair October 2011.
